The Secular Franciscan Order is called Ordo Franciscanus Sæcularis (OFS). It is an official Order within the Catholic Church. St. Francis of Assisi established it 1221 for laymen, laywomen, and ecumenical clergy. They wanted to follow his way of life. Secular Franciscans meet each month in local fraternities. We pray, study, and worship together. We encourage one another to apply the distinctive Gospel spirit of St. Francis to daily life. Like Francis, we joyfully participate in Christ’s mission. We actively bring the good news of salvation to the world.
